Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus recently opened an exhibit that showcases artist Raya Bodnarchuk’s planned sculptures for the Forest Glen Pedestrian Bridge. The exhibit will run now through May 6 in the art gallery, located in the Pavilion of Fine Arts at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus. The exhibit features the drawings and maquettes, which are small sculptures made in preparation of full-size works, created by Bodnarchuk for the Forest Glen project. The art gallery is on the first floor of the Pavilion of Fine Arts, located on New York Ave., between Chicago and Takoma Avenues in Takoma Park. Internationally-acclaimed artist Mindy Weisel has curated ‘Garden of Memories,’ an exhibit of the art of Paula Wachsstock, to be featured in the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington’s Goldman Art Gallery April 23 through May 14. During the month of April, the G Street Doll Club will be exhibiting an exciting variety of handmade cloth dolls at the Friendship Heights Community Center in Chevy Chase. The G Street Doll Club, which meets at G Street Fabrics in Rockville, recently donated eleven handmade dolls, each costumed in red, to the American Heart Association for auction at their annual fundraising gala.
The Posh Pooch's Art Fund-raiser to Benefit Noah's Wish, featuring animal artwork by Karen Derrico — voted one of the "best pet artists," by Washingtonian Magazine — will run for three months from March 6. The opening reception will be on March 9 from 5-7 p.m. Some 25 percent of the proceeds from art on exhibit, and commissioned pet paintings will benefit Noah's Wish — an organization dedicated to rescuing animals in disasters.
