Getting to Know...

Dan Meier is principal of Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax. A four-time marathon runner, he has worked in Fairfax County Public Schools as football coach, counselor and principal. He enjoys Robinson's performances, sports events, and even its cafeteria food. He is this week's People Profile.

<bt>Number of years in the community: Twenty-one years in Fairfax County.

Family: Married to wife, Annie for 18 years. Four children: Mike, 17; Tim, 15; Joe, 13; and Mary, 11.

Education: Bachelor of Science from North Carolina State University; a Master's in education from the University of Virginia.

Current job: Principal of Robinson Secondary School.

Achievements: Academic All-ACC defensive lineman at N.C. State, coached three football teams to Virginia state championships, elected to the Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame. Served in FCPS as a counselor, coach, guidance director, assistant principal, middle school principal and secondary school principal.

Activities/interests/hobbies: Running four marathons, reading, watching high school events, spending time with the family.

Favorite local restaurant: Robinson Secondary cafeteria: good food, great prices, terrific service and wonderful customers.

Favorite place in the community: Burke Lake.

What are your community concerns? Internet safety, gang involvement, substance abuse.

What are some ideas you have on ways to improve your community? Getting more students involved in wholesome, worthwhile activities.

What brought you here? The great reputation of Fairfax County Public Schools.

What community "hidden treasure" do you think more people should know about? Performances and events involving students at Robinson. The best entertainment value around.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you "grew up?" A major league baseball player (couldn't hit the curve ball).

Personal goals: To successfully balance the responsibilities of being a husband and father with the responsibilities of being the principal of Robinson.
