<sh>26 Charged at Wolf Trap

<bt>At the Aug. 10 Hootie and Blowfish show at Wolf Trap, officers issued tickets to 26 people, according to a release from the Fairfax County Police Department. Officers in uniform, in plain clothes and on bikes made the arrests between 6 and 9 p.m. in the facility's parking lots. One person was charged with possession of marijuana, and 25 people were charged with underage possession of alcohol. Those arrested ranged in age from 17 to 20, and they were released on misdemeanor summonses.

<sh>Merrifield House Fire

<bt>Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Merrifield area. The house is located at 2605 Bowling Green Drive. Firefighters reported fire from the rear and side of the one-story single-family home. They brought the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes, and there were no reported injuries. One adult was displaced, and the Red Cross is assisting the resident.

Damage is estimated at $70,000. According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental and was caused by an electrical anomaly within the rear deck.

<sh>Fall Co-Ed Softball Begins

<bt>Vienna's adult co-ed softball league will begin its fall season the week of Sept. 11. Games will be played on weeknights at Southside Park. The registration fee of $350 per team includes 10 regular-season double-header games, a post-season tournament, umpire fees, softballs and awards. <sh>Adult Fall Tennis League Begins

<bt>The registration deadline for the Vienna Parks and Recreation Department's adult fall tennis league is Sept. 9. League play begins Sept. 16, with men's singles games on Saturdays and women's singles games on Sundays at Glyndon and Meadow Lane Parks. Each participant will play a minimum of seven matches during the season. The fee is $15 for town residents and $20 for nonresidents. Call 703-255-6360 or visit www.viennava.gov.

<sh>Mosques Organize Civic Picnic

<bt>Northern Virginia mosques and organizations are holding the 6th Annual Northern Virginia Family and Civic Picnic on Saturday Aug. 26, from 2:30 - 5 p.m. at Lake Fairfax Park. Sponsors include the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, Dar Al-Hijrah, Manassas Mosque, Muslim Association of Virginia, Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation, Muslim Public Affairs Council, and Council on American-Islamic Relations, all 501(c) non profit organizations. Political candidates from all parties are being invited to address the community. Civic involvement, voter registration and family fun will be the theme of the picnic.

In the event of rain, the picnic will move to the ADAMS Center at 46903 Sugarland Road, Sterling. If raining, confirm the rain plan by calling 703-433-1325 at noon or 703-624-6352.
