Democrats from across Loudoun County elected members to represent them on the Loudoun County Democratic Committee. Since there were no contested positions, the caucus was suspended and all nominees became members by proclamation. The openings represent each precinct in the county and consisted of 54 precinct captains and 54 at-large members.
Officers were then elected by a quorum of members present, Thursday, Jan. 5, at Stone Bridge High School, in Ashburn. Thom Beres was re-elected chairman. Bob Moses was re-elected and Tim Buchholz was elected to hold the two vice chair positions. Jonathan Weintraub was re-elected treasurer. Ellen Heald was re-elected secretary. Elections of chairpersons for each of the eight districts representing the entire county were also held.
The process of reconstituting the local committee is mandated by the state party every two years. So members and officers elected will be serving two-year terms.

The "It's Time to Recycle" presentation explores the life of
recyclables, how recycling works and why it is important that everyone do their part to recycle.
Del. David E. Poisson (D-32) has been named to the House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee, which considers legislation that impacts the stateÕs natural resources and the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee, which reviews legislation that affects the safety and security of Virginians.
One of the bills Poisson has introduced this year has been assigned to the committee. House Bill 271 enables any Virginian to request automatic electronic notification if a convicted sex offender moves nearby. The Virginia database currently provides home and work locations of convicted offenders as well as a record of their convictions. PoissonÕs bill will enable neighbors to be immediately notified if such an offender moves into the neighborhood.
Poisson also shares a great appreciation for the natural beauty of the area, and as a member of the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee, he will review legislation that will help protect those vistas and natural resources.
If enacted, one of PoissonÕs bills will help promote cleaner air. House Bill 269 requires the state to begin immediately purchasing clean alternative fuel or hybrid vehicles. The bill requires that all state vehicles purchased by 2011 be hybrids that will reduce emissions and conserve energy.

Devan O. Carter of Cascades and Christopher J. Jaegar of Potomac Falls have been named to the President's Commendation List at Hargrave Military Academy for the second six-week grading period.
In one of his final gubernatorial actions before leaving office, Gov. Mark Warner appointed a number of new members to the various state boards and commissions, including the newest member to the Virginia Wine Board, wine maker Jennifer McCloud. Ms. McCloud is the owner of Chrysalis Vineyards in Middleburg.
Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services announces the hiring of Dave Carver as division manager for Youth and Sports. Carver was formerly the program manager for the Loudoun County Gang Response and Intervention Team (GRIT), a multi-agency organization charged with the coordination of gang prevention, intervention and suppression programs and activities for the county. Carver is credited with authoring the plan that enabled Northern Virginia to develop a regional gang prevention and intervention strategy.
Prior to becoming the GRIT coordinator, Carver served as a line probation officer and probation officer in the county's Supervised Release Program for a total of 11 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Old Dominion University and began his professional career working as the events manager for the university's athletic department. He has managed several NCAA Women's Basketball tournament events, as well as a NCAA National Championship event.
Carver is "proud to call Loudoun County his home" and maintains an active role in the community. He has served as a youth sports coach in basketball, baseball and softball and as a league commissioner for Lower Loudoun Little League and Central Loudoun Basketball League. He and his wife reside in Leesburg with their 10-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter.
