Potomac Elementary rings in the Year of the Dog in Chinese New Year festivities.

Potomac Elementary School held its annual Chinese New Year celebration on Thursday, Jan. 26. Students, teachers, parents and community members rang in Year 4704 on the Chinese calendar.

This year is known as the Year of the Dog, the 11th in the 12-year cycle of Chinese years.

Potomac Elementary’s celebration included performances by all grades — Mrs. Li’s kindergarten class sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” Mrs. Wang’s third-graders acted out a skit called “A Little Town,” and fifth-graders performed the customary Lion Dance.

Potomac Elementary hosts a Chinese Immersion program, one of two such programs offered in Montgomery County schools.
