Donations, Fund-Raiser for Slain Officers

Donations are continuing to the trust funds set up for the families of slain Sully District Station police officers, Det. Vicky Armel and MPO Mike Garbarino.

The Sully District Council of Citizens Associations contributed $500 to each fund. And Monday night, the West Fairfax County Citizens Association (WFCCA) voted to donate $250 to each fund.

Contributions from the community are also welcome. Checks, payable to either Armel Family Trust Fund or Garbarino Family Trust Fund may be sent to those names, c/o Fairfax County Federal Credit Union, 4201 Members Way, Fairfax, VA 22030.

In addition, this coming Saturday, July 22, from 8-10 a.m., the Applebee's restaurants at 4995 Westone Plaza Drive (off Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard), at 14441 Brookfield Tower Drive (off Route 28 and Willard Road) and at 12970 Fair Lakes Shopping Center will hold a pancake breakfast with all proceeds split equally between the two trust funds.

No reservations are needed; $5 will buy three pancakes, two sausage links, butter, syrup and a choice of coffee or iced or hot tea. The Westone Plaza Applebee's will also be hanging photos of Armel and Garbarino on their "Local Heroes" wall.

And for anyone who'll be in Warrenton, the Applebee's at 105 West Lee Highway will also host this fund-raiser, at the same time. Armel and Garbarino were killed May 8 during an ambush at the police station. They each left behind a spouse and two children.
