Vienna Walks for a Cure

Ma Nature smiled on Vienna's second Relay for Life Saturday, gracing the event with a sunny, breezy day and the first reasonable temperatures in over a week. Each of 91 teams kept at least one member walking around the Oakton High School track from 2 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, while the rest of the team enjoyed a sort of all-night festival, rife with entertainment.

The event included about 1,330 registered team members, more than 100 cancer survivors and about 200 volunteers, half of whom were not on teams. At the relay's close, $370,000 had been raised, and money is expected to keep coming in until late June.
