The Fairfax County Area League of Women Voters examines the jury system on Thursday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. in the Hunters Crossing Craft Room at Greenspring Village, 7470 Spring Village Drive, Springfield. Burke Rotary Club. Since June 1984. Meets each Tuesday, at 7:30 a.m., for breakfast. For most of its existence it met at Hopsfrog Restaurant (formerly Fritters), but for the past two years it has found its home at Brion’s Grille across from George Mason University in the University Mall. Equality Fairfax. A gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and advocacy group, Equality Fairfax offers a wide variety of regular social activities, volunteer opportunities and issues education in Fairfax County. Enthusiastic and energetic women, who love to sing, are invited to join the Celebration Singers, a non-profit volunteer 40 member costumed and choreographed show chorus that performs at many community, social and religious events. The Springfield Art Guild (SAG) is open for new membership. SAG promotes an interest in arts and crafts through educational programs, juried shows and classes for adults and children. Music event. The Kings Park Concert Band, under the direction of Conductor Rich Bergman is now rehearsing for spring performances and is looking for adults interested in playing in the band. All are welcome and no auditions are required. Membership is open to adults who played in high school or college and want to continue playing. Programs feature typical band music, including light classics, marches, and popular compositions. New Neighbors League Club of DC Metro. A non-profit organization, is looking for those new to the area or newly retired and looking for new activities and friends. The Fairfax Jubil-Aires, a barbershop harmony chorus, is seeking to expand membership. A cappella singers of all backgrounds are encouraged to join the group. Currently, the organization consists of male singers in their 50s and 60s. Singing four-part a cappella harmony, the group covers songs from the turn of the century to the music of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. OAR Meetings. OAR (Opportunities, Alternatives and Resources), Inc. of Fairfax County hosts a bimonthly Family Support Group for those with a loved one who is incarcerated.
