Number of years in the community. I have lived in Fairfax County for 12 years.
Family: Husband –Steve; grown step-children: Viki who lives in Louisiana, Mo. and Justin who lives in Arlington, Va.
Education: I received a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University. I received my master's degree from The George Washington University. Lastly, I received my Ph.D. from George Mason University.
Current job/primary occupation? I am currently the principal at Burke School.
Achievements: Outstanding Professional Performance Award, Council for Exceptional Children -2001.
Activities/interests/hobbies? Unfortunately, because of the long hours of this job, there is not much time left for hobbies. I enjoy playing basketball with our staff on occasion, and when I can, I like to exercise. On the weekends I enjoy watching sports on television or in person.
Favorite local restaurant or place in the community? Spartans Restaurant and Burke Lake.
What brought you here? I moved to this area in 1989 after finishing my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Belize, Central America. Had I not had a back injury and been required to leave Belize to come to Washington, D.C. to see some doctors, I may have never discovered the beauty of the East Coast.
What community "hidden treasure" do you think more people should know about? I love the community feel of Burke. The sporting activities available to the youth is amazing.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you "grew up?" My aspirations varies slightly from time to time, but they always revolved around helping people; the field of education was almost always the only thing I considered pursuing.
Where do you see yourself in five years? Hopefully I will continue to be happy, healthy, and in a position to be of some help to others.
Personal goals? Like most people, I learn from others and strive to be a better person all-around. I have lived a good life and have been very blessed to have such wonderful experiences and opportunities. I always aspire to be a more humble, thoughtful, and generous person who gives more than I receive.
