On Saturday, May 20, Langley High School students celebrated their prom Hollywood style at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston Town Center. In keeping with the "A Red Carpet Affair" theme, students exited their stretch limos and walked the red carpet in a frenzy of camera flashes on their way into the event. Approximately 750 students attended the event. Sipping on sparkling cider in champagne flutes, they danced the night away with friends.
Juniors Haley Elkin and Janelle Pickering had dinner at Ruby Tuesday's with their friends before coming to the event. Both said the best part of the evening was "dancing and seeing friends." Their post-prom plans involved more of the same.
"We're probably just going to go home and hang out," Pickering said.
Hanging out at various houses seemed to be the main plan for most students.
"We're going to a friend's house afterwards — it's going to be pretty low-key," said senior Katherine Hughey.
Sophomore Lia McCarty and senior Jessica Alexander also had plans to go to a friend's home after the event. Both said they enjoyed their evening immensely.
"I'm looking forward to hanging out with friends and meeting new people," said McCarty. "It's been really fun."
