Exploring Theatre Arts II at Yorktown

From My Perspective

I have always been a thinker — an over-thinker, in fact. So to me, the idea of not being “in my head” was completely foreign. How could you possibly act well without even thinking? However, that is one of the main ideas that the Yorktown Theater Department centers around — and rightfully so.

After taking theater class for just two months, it had already become so much more than acting. As a student who will probably not pursue acting past high school, theater class is about learning more about myself. As I learn, I am realizing that there are all sorts of ways to look at the world around us. Yes, there is the “in your head” way of looking at things, but there is also the theater way. While it is important to be able to think things through, there are times when it is more revealing, interesting and even thought provoking to look at life from a purely physical and emotional standpoint.
