Volunteer Fairfax’s annual program for children, “A Celebration of Giving and Sharing,” is now recruiting volunteers to help teach students about giving, receiving, sharing and kindness. Volunteers fill backpacks with books and toys, deliver them to deserving elementary students, and visit classrooms to talk to the children about the importance of volunteer service. This year the program will benefit students at four Fairfax County elementary schools, including Dogwood Elementary in Reston.

Volunteers are needed two days. The first is Delivery Day, Thursday, Nov. 30, 5-8 p.m., at participating schools. Volunteers help decorate classrooms and distribute backpacks and books for every student. The second is Discovery Day, Friday, Dec. 1, 7-9 a.m. (varies by school start time), at schools. Teams of community volunteers will greet the students, assist with activities and help lead a lesson on giving and sharing.
