Nov. 28, from 4-6 p.m., make soaps, ornaments, tags and gift bags, cost $14 plus $4 supply fee. Nov. 30, from 4-5 p.m., make beaded ornaments, cost $10. Dec. 5, from 4-5 p.m., make a mini gingerbread house, cost $7 plus $3 supply fee. Dec. 7, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., make own Christmas wrap and gift bags, ages 4 and up, cost $9 with supplies included. Dec. 9, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., create handmade necklace or bracelet for the holidays, ages 5-8, cost $8 plus $6 for supplies. Dec. 13, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., ages 5 and up, make a craft and bake and decorate Christmas cookies, cost $7 plus $3 for supplies.

College application essay workshop, Ashburn Library, 43316 Hay Road, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2 p.m. Robert Otten, professor of English at Marymount University, will offer tips on writing a college application essay. Bookmaking workshop, Ashburn Library, 43316 Hay Road, Dec. 9, 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for ages 4-6; 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for ages 7-11. Cut, paste, fold, get 3-dimensional and make your own book. Children ages 4-6 will have an opportunity to made a cereal box book. Bring an empty cereal box during the 10:30 a.m. session and a paper bag book for the 11:30 a.m. Children ages 7-11 will make an accordion book with flags at 2 p.m. and a maze book with cityscape collage at 3:30 p.m. Advance registration required, 703-737-8105.

Artist/cartoonist Andy Farkas will teach a three-day cartooning workshop for children ages 10-14. The workshop will run Dec. 27-29, from 9 a.m.-noon, at the Loudoun Academy of the Arts, 222 South King St., Leesburg.
