Academy Women Symposium. The 3rd Annual Academy Women Symposium, celebrating 30 years of women at the Academies, will be held at the Memorial. Open to all women graduates of U.S. service academies, all women military officers or former officers and the public. Contact Susan Feland at feland@academywomen.org.

Saturday/Oct. 21

Theft Prevention. The Arlington County Police Department is conducting a free auto theft deterrence event on Saturday, Oct. 21. At the event, car owners can have their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched into their exterior windows. Citizens are encouraged to bring their families to the event. A number of activities are planned, including an appearance by McGruff The Crime Dog. Also, vehicles and equipment used to combat auto theft will be on display, including a Virginia Law Enforcement. Yard Sale. The Salvation Army, 518 S. Glebe Road, Arlington, is having an indoor yard sale fund-raiser for Salvation Army projects from 8 a.m.-noon. Small furniture items, toys, clothing, etc. will be for sale. Contact 703-979-3380 for questions.

The Fourth Annual Leckey Forum will be held at George Mason University, Arlington Campus, Room 329. The focus this year is "Increasing Resources for Affordable Housing" and Speaker's Panel includes The Hon. Gerry Connolly, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, representatives from the Federal Home Loan Bank, Fannie Mae, Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) and other banks and nonprofit housing funds and specialists in the area of affordable housing. There will be discussion following each panel of four speakers Including audience input and participation. The cost is only $10, which includes the entire program which runs from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and continental breakfast and box lunch. One hundred percent of proceeds from this event enable the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation to grant dying wishes. Octoberfest Bazaar. Walker Chapel United Methodist Church will hold an Oktoberfest Bazaar from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. A large assortment of clothing and shoes, electronics, toys, jewelry, housewares, boutique, silent auction and more will be available at great prices along with a Bake Shop.
