Tidying Up Mason Neck

Volunteers remove trash from Potomac River March 31.

Volunteers turned out in the hundreds to clean up Mason Neck Saturday, March 31. According to volunteer Joe Chudzik, 20 clean-up sites were set up on Mason Neck in the 2007 clean-up with over 200 volunteers participating.

Harley, who owns Harley & Sons Fisheries, donated his workboat to the effort, as did three-year site captain Jim York. Potomac Disposal Services provided roll-off trash container services free of charge, and the Mason Neck Lions Club and the Mason Neck Citizen's Association donated refreshments for the participating volunteers.

Over 300 bags of trash, 350 tires, and other debris was collected by the volunteers and removed for proper disposal at the Fairfax County Waste to Energy Facility in Lorton.
