Beckstrom Electric Co. in Dulles, Southland Concrete in Dulles and United Foundations in Sterling were honored by Hubert Construction of Gaithersburg, Md., recently for being one of its top 20 top subcontractors with a series of special events including a "casino night" and a plaque for each winning company.

Sterling-based WaveLight Inc. has hired Frederic N. "Ric" Tiplady as the new vice president of business development for North America. Prior to his appointment Tiplady was the vice president of sales, U.S., for VISX Inc. and later for the Laser Vision Group of Advanced Medical Optics. Before that, he was the area director of refractive lasers at Alcon.

Ellington and Hulbert Family Dentistry will be holding its fourth annual Give Kids a Smile Day, May 11, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., for children ages 6-12. Includes free dental screenings, cleanings and treatment for disadvantaged youth in the county school system who live in the Sterling/Potomac Falls area. Children are referred by their school nurse or school parent liaison.
