Langley High Student Completes Girls State

Hannah Shatzen of McLean has completed a week at American Legion Auxiliary Virginia Girls State held at Longwood College in Farmville, Va. where she was elected senator. Her teachers at Langley High School nominated Hannah. Qualifications for admission are based on leadership, initiative, and character. The American Legion Auxiliary, in cooperation with many civic clubs and school groups, has sponsored the Virginia Girls State since 1946. Girls State provides a "hand-on" forum for leadership training. Virginia Girls State is a school in which future citizens of Virginia have an opportunity to learn, in a few days, the mechanics, objectives, and ideals of democracy. The goal of Girls State is to enlighten our young citizens so that they realize that they are an essential part of their government and responsible for its future character and success.

In addition Hannah will be 2007 -08 Student Government president at Langley and is also a varsity cheerleader and plays varsity softball.
