Children’s Librarian Leaves Fortnightly

After two years of working with Herndon’s youngest citizens at Herndon Fortnightly Library, Children’s Librarian Sarah Lyon is leaving her post as she and her husband move to Raleigh, N.C. Lyon has taken a position as a reference librarian in a Wake County library.

"It was fantastic," said Lyon of her time spent in Herndon. She attributes Herndon’s sense of community, a small community in a large county, to her positive work experience. Lyon said she hoped to get a position as a children’s librarian after the move, but that position was not offered.

As for her two years in Herndon, Lyon said she would remember the people who visited Herndon Fortnightly on a regular basis. "I saw the same faces everyday for two years," she said. "I was able to make really strong connections with the people here."

The library held its annual Open House on Saturday, Dec. 1. Visitors listened to a holiday concert by the Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir of Holy Cross Lutheran Church while drinking warm cider while the children enjoyed arts and crafts activities. Saturday, Dec. 1 also marked Lyon’s last day at the library.
