Lady Bird

Jon James, acting superintendent of the George Washington Memorial Parkway, speaks about Lady Bird Johnson at a memorial service held this weekend in Lady Bird Johnson Park, located on Columbia Island. James spoke about Johnson's love of nature, and especially her commitment to the beautification of the Washington area. The event was attended by roughly two dozen people who came to show their respects to the former First Lady. "We are all beneficiaries of Lady Bird Johnson's legacy, especially in the spring," said LBJ admirer Caroline Jackson. "I love wildflowers and she was really something else," said Park Service employee Anna Womack. "What she did helps make our commute [down the Parkway] a little better," Dee Lucash said.
