The promotion and expansion of art around the county is the primary goal of the Loudoun Arts Council (LAC). The council is a nonprofit organization constructed to benefit artistic expression in and around the community through the sponsoring and/or co-sponsoring of numerous programs. To become a member of the LAC, fill out a membership form at the organization's Web site. Annual member dues required.

Programs:

Arts in Offices: This program rotates artwork submitted by 30 LAC members to area business offices in the county every three months. Member artwork is displayed in waiting rooms, meeting rooms and other areas. Acceptable artwork includes sculpture, photography, painting and graphic art. The LAC accepts artwork primarily from LAC members. For more information, contact Kathy Kupka at 703-777-7838.

Loudoun Arts Advance: This quarterly publication, sent to all LAC members, contains news on arts and business and a local calendar of artistic events.

Excellence in the Arts Award: The Excellence in the Arts Award provides scholarships to 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students in Loudoun County who display exceptional skill and achievement in the field of arts. Judged categories include theater, dance, visual arts, literary arts, digital arts, piano performance and vocal and instrumental performance.

Designer Showhouse: Annually, visit Web site for more information. This year to be held at the Manor House, part of the Rust Nature Sanctuary from Sept. 27-Oct. 15.

VSA Arts of Virginia (Loudoun County)

The VSA Arts of Virginia in Loudoun County is an organization that helps community members with disabilities enjoy and create art. The organization caters to a variety of artistic media, ranging from dance and creative writing to drama and the visual arts. Offered programs include art workshops, traveling theater groups and dance workshops. The Da Vinci studio space for disabled artists opened in August 2003 in Round Hill.
