Marymount Student Wins Fashion Group Scholarship

Three Marymount University students were recently awarded merit scholarships by the Fashion Group Foundation of Greater Washington, which is part of Fashion Group International (FGI), a world-wide fashion industry organization. An authority on the business of fashion and design, FGI works “to promote educational programs devoted to fashion and to the study of fashion related businesses through the creation and awarding of scholarships.”

At a recent reception, the D.C. chapter presented five scholarship awards to area students, including three from Marymount University, one a Vienna resident. Iwona Kapcia-Paila ’08 is pursuing a double major in Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising. She received the $2,000 Shelley Mulitz Award. Originally from Krakow, Poland, Iwona grew up surrounded and inspired by art. “Although I believe that designing is a natural thing for me,” she explains, “I realize the value and advantage of higher education. I feel so fortunate to be able to study fashion at Marymount University.”
