Friendship Firehouse, 107 S. Alfred St., will be open for special free Father's Day tours this Sunday, June 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Every father will be made an honorary Chief of the Friendship Fire Company Bucket Brigade. Those attending with their children will receive a certificate, get to ring the fire bell and have their picture taken with the antique Friendship Fire Engine.

Known as George Washington Firehouse, it celebrated its 232nd anniversary in 2006. Organized in 1774, Friendship Fire Company moved to its present location in 1851. The firehouse also serves as the headquarters of the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association.

A philanthropic organization, the Association focuses on life safety issues and is active in a host of community activities. Each year prior to Alexandria's George Washington Birthday Celebration and Parade it hosts a breakfast honoring outstanding Alexandria citizens and honoring the parade's Grand Marshal.
