Cooper Middle School students who have not ordered a yearbook may bring a check for $30, made out to Cooper Middle School on Thursday, June 14. Every student who brings a check may enter a lottery to possibly receive a book. Those who are unsure whether they ordered a book, e-mail Lindsay.farrell@fcps.edu. No yearbooks will be given out after the yearbook lottery.

Cooper Middle School needs more volunteers for field day on Thursday, June 14, 7:15 a.m.-noon. Those who are able to help, contact Teresa Weis at teresa.weis@fcps.edu.

The Cooper Middle School 8th grade celebration party is this Friday, June 15, 6:30-9 p.m. Students need to return their registration cards if they plan to attend or not; students are registered during their lunch periods, and cost is $20. There will be no sales at the door the evening of the event.

The Langley High School Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Sunday, June 17, 3 p.m. Discounted group tickets and a limited number of half-price student tickets are available, order forms are in the Orchestra room. Visit langleyorchestra.org.

The U.S. Department of Education will host a pre-show evening reception and a live public television broadcast of Education News Parents Can Use, Tuesday, June 19. The topic for the show is “Summer Programs: Keeping Students Learning, Safe and Active.” Free roundtrip bus transportation is available for groups of 40 people. All guests are expected to arrive at 6:30 p.m. at WETA-TV (PBS), 2775 South Quincy St., Arlington. The Robert R. Spillane Leadership Award recognizes outstanding FCPS employees who through leadership in their FCPS work location — school, department, or office — have made a significant impact on students. Employees may be nominated for a specific project or initiative or for sustained, noteworthy contributions to the academic mission of the schools. Two $1,000 awards will be presented at the Leadership Conference on Aug. 1. Nomination forms are available in school offices and at www.fcps.k12.va.us/supt/suptoff/leadershipaward.htm. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, June 22.
