All three Chantilly High School publications — literary magazine "Andromeda," newspaper "The Purple Tide" and yearbook "Odyssey" — won the TROPHY CLASS award at the VHSL State Championship Convention.

This earns Chantilly 35 points for each publication toward the Wachovia Cup for Academic Excellence State Championship.

This was the 15th Trophy Class for "Odyssey" which means it will receive its third Charles Savedge Award for Sustained Excellence at the convention in 2008.

Also, "The Purple Tide" newspaper and "Odyssey" yearbook won Best of Show for AAA publications.

In addition, Brett Zinger, adviser to both "The Purple Tide" and "Andromeda," received the VAJTA Douglas S. Freeman Award for excellence in contributions to scholastic journalism in the Commonwealth. His citation stated in part: "Since he has been advising at Chantilly High School, both the newspaper and the literary magazine have consistently placed in state and national competitions. Adept in photography and design, as well as being a Journalism Education Association Master Journalism Educator, Zinger excels in inspiring his students to become great writers and ethical journalists."
