New Support Group for parents of middle and high school students with AD/HD. Free. Each session will feature a workshop, such as Advocating for your Child, Looking Ahead to College, and Reducing Family Stress in the AD/HD Home, followed by a discussion and sharing period. The Alexandria Mental Health Family Support Group of NAMI/FOCUS is open to all families dealing with family members diagnosed with depression, bipolar or schizophrenia. Train for a marathon while raising money to help fund blood cancer research. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training program (TNT) is signing up runners, walkers, and cyclists for events at winter destinations. After training, team members will be prepared to run or walk a full or half marathon (26.2 and 13.1 miles), or cycle a century ride (100 miles). The Inova Hospital System asks the public to give blood. There is a need for all types of blood, with an emergency need for Type O-positive & O-negative. Young women with breast cancer are invited to attend a monthly support group for pre-menopausal women diagnosed with breast cancer. Alzheimer's Support Group. The Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Group meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 4:30 p.m., at the Alexandria Adult Day Health Center.
