Loudoun Auditions

Want to sing, dance, act or play an instrument? There are a variety of groups in Loudoun holding auditions for their upcoming seasons. Here are a few highlights:

Voce Chamber Singers, a 24-member mixed-choral ensemble, will hold auditions for its 2007-08 concert series to fill openings for male voices. All soloists are selected from within the ensemble. Under the direction of Kenneth Nafziger, Voce will present in its 19th subscription season this year. Voce rehearses on Monday evenings, September-May, in Herndon and performs in Northern Virginia. The Loudoun Chorale welcomes new members for its 2007-2008 season. Sopranos, altos, tenors and basses are all needed. Membership is open to students as well and no auditions are required. Rehearsals began Aug. 26 and are held every Sunday night, from 6-8 p.m., at Holy Trinity Church in Leesburg. In addition to its winter and spring concerts, the Chorale will perform in Front Royal and at the Waterford Festival. Loudoun Symphony Orchestra Auditions, 7:30-10 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, Loudoun Country Day School, Leesburg. Positions open for flute/piccolo, bass clarinet, bassoon 2, fourth horn, section strings. The Sterling Playmakers announce open auditions for its season opening Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap." Auditions to be held Friday, Sept. 7, 7-9:30 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 8, 1-4 p.m., at the Sterling Middle School theatre, 201 West Holly Ave., Sterling. Roles for five men and three women ages 20 and up are available. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. All roles are open. Contact mousetrap@sterlingplaymakers.com.

Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra auditions, Sept. 8 and 9, at the Loudoun Country Day School, Leesburg. Open to all string, woodwind, brass and percussion players between the ages of 10-18 with a minimum of three years of private instruction or who have participated in a school band or orchestra program for three years. Loudoun Ballet Company "The Nutcracker" auditions. The company will hold open auditions for the children's roles Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m., at Smarts Mill Middle School, 850 N. King St., Leesburg. Audition fee is $10 per individual and $20 per family. Visit www.loudounballet.org for times.

The College Community Theater, in residence at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun campus announces auditions for its fall production "The Children’s Hour" by Lillian Hellman. Auditions will be held Friday, Sept. 14, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 15, from 12-2 p.m. Call backs are Sunday Sept. 16, from 12-2 p.m. Actors will be asked to read scenes from the play. All auditions take place in the Waddell Theater at the Loudoun campus. Fourteen females ages 14 and up and one male in his 30s are needed for this production. Saturday, Sept. 15, from 1-4 p.m., the Virginia Conservatory of Music will be registering for the 2007-08 academic year. Auditions for the Conservatory Youth Symphony (CYS) will also be held on that day. Classes available include after-school program with music and tutoring, early childhood music classes, instrumental studies. The open house will be held at 208 Wirt St., Leesburg, and will feature free music performances by students from The Little Mozart Academy and soloists from the International Youth Orchestra.
