The Chantilly office of AMEC Earth & Environmental and OfficeMax joined forces to donate 50 school backpacks to needy students studying at Westfield High School in the 2008-9 school year. Administrative Assistant Joyce Mitchell volunteered the AMEC Chantilly office to sponsor a School Backpack Program organized by the Western Fairfax Christian Ministries. The program supplies backpacks for the free- and reduced-lunch students in the 24 local schools each fall, and the demand is increasing. Westfield requested 50 backpacks for the coming school year. Joyce asked AMEC corporate vendor OfficeMax if they would like to participate in the sponsorship. With the help of Coordinator of Administrative Programs Josie Castillo making the call and Carol Russell of OfficeMax, 50 backpacks are being donated to Westfield by AMEC and OfficeMax. Delivery of the backpacks will be in mid-August.
