South Lakes High School is Reston’s only high school. For the last two years the school has been under the leadership of principal Bruce Butler. In recent years the student body has participated in a number of fund-raisers that benefited local, national and international communities. Fund-raisers for Tsunami victims, Hurricane Katrina victims and a fellow Seahawk struck with cancer are just some of the examples of the students’ community service.
Among other programs at the school, South Lakes offers the International Baccalaureate program. The school also holds a Senior Ethics Day with the Reston Chamber of Commerce and an international club for its student population from many different backgrounds.
