Lou Jordy, representative of the Potomac Region Branch of the Fleet Reserve Association, presents Katherine Fairbanks with certificates awarding her top honors in the local and regional branch levels for her essay on patriotism. The Fleet Reserve Association, an organization that represents the interests of current and former enlisted Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard personnel, sponsors an annual Americanism essay contest based on themes announced each spring. Fairbanks is a rising ninth grader at South County Secondary School.
