Waynewood Students Collect Pennies for Peace

photo

Waynewood sixth-graders transferred pennies from jars and bottles to boxes to be counted at the bank.

Waynewood Elementary students collected Pennies for Peace throughout the month of May. This program, a service learning program of Central Asia Institute, encourages school children to learn about their capacity as philanthropists by collecting and donating pennies to purchase school supplies for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. These funds support education as the most effective way to overcome war and conflict. Each Waynewood class collected hundreds and hundreds of pennies. The schoolwide total will be determined when pennies are counted at Burke and Herbert Bank.
