Quotable: “Our experience should be the strong point. For most of the team, this will be their third season together. They have a goal of getting to the regional tournament and seeing what happens once they are there.” – head coach Erich Gunderman

Outlook: After a 4-6-3 record last year, the South County boys soccer team returns the majority of its squad this year and looks to make some noise in the Patriot District. Starting a majority of sophomores in the Stallions’ first year of existence in 2005, head coach Erich Gunderman will look to reap the benefits this year, fielding an experienced squad that has played together for two years.

“Our experience should be the strong point. For most of the team, this will be their third season together,” said Gunderman, in an e-mail. “They have a goal of getting to the regional tournament and seeing what happens once they are there.”

Last season, the Stallions were accustomed to playing in close games, with eight games – five losses – decided by 1 goal or less. In two games this year, the Stallions played Centreville to a 0-0 tie and edged Madison, 1-0.

“Our ability to score will decide how we do this year,” said Gunderman.
