The Governing Board and staff of the McLean Community Center encourage all qualified residents to vote for new members of the McLean Community Center Governing Board. Voting will be held at McLean Day, Saturday, May 17, but any qualified resident may vote by absentee ballot. Pick up an absentee ballot package at the Center's reception desk, call the Center at 703-790-0123/TTY: 711, or send a request by e-mail to mail@mcleancenter.org to have the package sent in the mail. Completed ballots must be received by the center by close of business on Wednesday, May 14. Write-in candidates are allowed.

Bring used soccer cleats to McLean Day on Saturday, May 17 to donate to Physicians for Peace for young soccer players in Eritrea, Africa. Sam Hoehn, a McLean Youth Soccer player with MPS Thunder, is working on his Eagle Scout project which is to collect 2,000 used soccer cleats (not shoes) to ship to Eritrea. Donated cleats will be shipped, along with medical supplies, at the end of June.

Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is hosting an information session on Saturday, May 17, 11 a.m.-noon at the Dolley Madison Community Library, 1244 Oak Ridge Ave., McLean. The Great Falls Women's Club will be having a private tour of the Garden and Landscapes of Mount Vernon on Tuesday, May 20. The tour may be followed with a tour of the grand house/museum, with lunch for those who wish to stay. Meet at 8 a.m. at the side parking lot of the Great Falls CVS to carpool to Mount Vernon. Reservations are necessary for this trip by May 10; there are charges for these tours. For further information and reservations, contact Pat at 703-430-9281.

The Great Falls Women's Club will travel to the National Museum of Women in the Arts on Thursday, May 22, for luncheon in the Museum Cafe, followed by a guided tour of the museum. Guests are welcome. Carpools will be formed behind the CVS in Great Falls at 10:45 a.m. Luncheon will be at noon, and the tour at 1:30 p.m. The cost for the admission/tour/luncheon is $25. Neighborhood Plant Clinic. The Fairfax County Master Gardeners Association gives tips and strategies. No registration is required. Every Saturday in May, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library, 7584 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, 703-790-8088.
