Majors Keep Rolling

Anyone planning on arriving fashionably late to Mount Vernon’s pivotal game against Yorktown this week better think twice after the Majors once again showed off their offensive capabilities, scoring three first-quarter touchdowns of more than 40 yards en route to a 36-26 win over Centreville last Friday night.

Senior running backs Brandon O’Clisham and Kyle Ricks were a formidable tag team against the Centreville defense, combining for all three Mount Vernon first-quarter scores. O’Clishmam had touchdown runs of 40 and 65 yards, while Ricks had his own 69-yard scoring scamper.

Ricks finished with close to 175 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The win upped the Majors record to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in National District play, setting up a pivotal matchup at Yorktown (5-3 overall, 3-1 National) this Friday. Mount Vernon is currently riding a four-game winning streak.

If the Northern Region playoffs were to start this week, Mount Vernon would hold the third seed based on the Division Five Power Point Ratings (a mathematical formula based off a team’s record and schedule strength similar to the BCS ratings in college football).
