The Assistance League of Northern Virginia will be holding a raffle for a trip to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga., on April 11-12, 2009. The prize package valued at over $8,500 includes two passes to the final weekend of the tournament, three nights hotel accommodations, three day car rental and unlimited hospitality privileges at the 1018 Club. The fund-raising effort supports the Assistance League's philanthropic projects: Operation Hugs, which supplies comfort items to youth and adult victims of sexual assault; as well as packages of infant care essentials to needy mothers; and Operation School Bell, which enhances literacy skills for local at-risk early elementary school students. Stacey Joedicke of Centreville has upgraded her membership in the Association of Bridal Consultants. Joedicke operates Monumental Events Inc. She is a full-service wedding planner serving brides in the Orange County metro area. As an Association member, Joedicke works to improve her professionalism and that of others in the wedding business. She has been a member since December of 2006. At Monumental Events, Inc. Stacey has completed the Professional Development Program given by ABC to earn her Professional Bridal Consultant Designation. She also teaches wedding planning classes for brides through the Fairfax County Adult and Community Education program.

Chantilly-based American Systems, a government and commercial IT solutions provider and one of the top 100 employee-owned companies in the U.S., announced the appointment of Charles Foote to vice president and director of the Custom Business Applications (CBA) directorate. Mr. Foote will oversee the development and deployment of unique IT solutions and systems integration services for federal customers.

In addition, anyone filing federal or state tax returns in the Commonwealth of Virginia can get free online tax advice by e-mailing questions at through the "Ask a CPA" Tax Help E-mail Program. Experienced, licensed certified public accountants (CPA) will provide answers to tax questions within three business days. Tax questions can be submitted online Jan. 30 through April 8, 2009.

Westfields Marriott was awarded a Certificate of Environmental Commitment by Virginia Green, the statewide program that works to reduce the environmental impact of Virginia's Tourism Industry. The Virginia Green Lodging campaign recognizes hospitality facilities that practice the program’s "core activities," aimed at pollution prevention.

To qualify for the certificate, Westfields practices responsibility in each of the program’s five core activities — optional linen service; recycling; water conservation; energy conservation; and green events, conferences and meetings — and goes beyond to exceed the initiative’s participation requirements.

The Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce will stage its premiere celebration with an Anniversary Gala titled Hour Story: Eat, Drink and Dance Your Way Through Five Decades. This will include silent and live auction, a scrolling visual history of the Chamber events and leaders interspersed with major events of those decades.
