Summer Marie Thomas of Reston and daughter of Ms. Tracy Thomas was named to Episcopal High School’s academic honor roll for the second quarter of the 2008-09 academic year.

Reston resident Angela Li is currently studying abroad through the Boston University International Programs office. A Communication major, Li is currently enrolled in the Sydney Internship Program Advertising, Marketing, and PR through the end of the Spring 2009 semester. Li is scheduled to graduate from BU in 2010.

Army National Guard 2nd Lt. Mark C. Hoffman of South Lakes participated in the 56th Presidential Inauguration Jan. 20 as part of the largest ever contingent of National Guard members to serve in Washington, D.C. More than 7,000 Army and Air National Guard members from 31 states and territories provided the 2009 Presidential Inauguration with military working dogs, consequence management planning, and ceremonial, logistics, and medical support through the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee.

Alex Sonnenberg, a sophomore from Reston, was one of seven riders named to the St. Andrews Presbyterian College equestrian team that will compete at the 2009 national championship sponsored by the American National Riding Commission. Collegiate teams from across the nation are expected to compete.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Tanikie N. Barrett, daughter of Yvonne Webb of Barrel Cooper Court, Reston, is one of more than 700 members supporting the Armed Forces Inaugural

Committee, a joint-service organization formed to coordinate all military participation and support for the 10-day period of Inaugural events. Barrett is part of the escort crew for the Inaugural ceremony and parade.

Christopher J. Ganske, brother of Reston resident Chad Ganske along with members of Patrol Squadron 9 "Golden Eagles" and Consolidated Maintenance Organization 2, Detachment Bravo, Maintenance Team "Sea Raiders" stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, recently completed a seven-month deployment to Ali Air Base, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ganske joined the Navy in January 2005.

Laurence Malone of Reston turned 100 on Jan. 3. Malone stated that his wish was to have "pan fried oysters from McCormick & Schmick’s" for his birthday. So, McCormick & Schmick’s general manager, Melody Casbarian, and Chef Franklin Campos, went to the Malone home where they prepared and presented two dozen oysters and a commemorative menu to Reston’s latest centenarian.

Reston resident Raymond Roy Muriuki Kago is among the 283 students named to the fall 2008 Dean’s List at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Students named to the Dean’s List earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale with no grades below "C" and were enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
