The Fairfax High School Theatre Department - The F/X Players will present "Singing in the Rain" Jan. 23, 24, 30, and 31 at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, Fairfax. Showtimes for the Friday and Saturday evening performances are 7:30 p.m. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets may be purchased online at www.fxplayers.org.

St. Andrew the Apostle School is also accepting new student registrations to fill student vacancies for the 2009-2010 school year. A non-refundable application fee of $100 will be required at the time of application. Submit all applications and fees to St. Andrew the Apostle School, 6720B Union Mill Road, Clifton, or drop off applications at the school office. All registration forms and additional information about St. Andrew the Apostle School may be found on the school's Web site, www.standrew-clifton.org.

Northern Virginia Community College will be closed on Inauguration Day and all classes are cancelled, a change from the published spring semester schedule. The college is substituting holiday annual leave hours granted to it by state government to make the cancellation possible. NOVA will also be closed on Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a previously scheduled holiday.

A special concert will be held at Westfield High School in Chantilly to benefit the Rembrance Projects that have been established for Erin Peterson and Reema Samaha, two of the victims of the tragedy at Virginia Tech. The concert will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m, and is sponsored by Loudoun Habitat for Humanity and features music performed by musicians of national and internal acclaim. The three featured musicians are: David Erlich, Violinist, Teresa Erlich, Pianist and Ben Wyatt, Cellist. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved in advance at benefit0111@yahoo.com and will also be available at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Erin Peterson Build and the Reema J. Samaha Memorial Scholarship program. These projects are supported by VT-ENGAGE and the Center for Student Engagement and Community Partnerships at Virginia Tech.

Pleasant Valley Preschool will be holding its annual Open House and Registration on Monday, Jan. 26 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. A cooperative preschool with classes available for 3 and 4 year olds, the school is located in the Greenbriar Community Center, 4615 Stringfellow Road, Chantilly. Centreville Preschool, Inc (CPI) will be holding its annual Open House on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to noon. Stop by to meet the teachers and take a tour of CPI, which has been serving the Centreville area for 40 years with learning through play. Enrollment for the 2009-2010 begins the following Monday. The 15th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Festival will take place on Sunday, Jan. 11 from 4-6 p.m. in the Centreville High School auditorium. The program is free, open to the public and sponsored by the Chantilly Pyramid Minority Student Achievement Committee (CPMSAC). The Festival is a blend of entertainment and education to display the students’ array of talents. Performances may include choirs, bands, orchestra, vocal and instrumental soloists, dancers (group or solo), and orators. The 2009 MLK Committee is made up of Kim Graham, Brenda Johnson, Wanda Tanks-Gregory and Deneen Vaughn.

Clifton Children's Academy will be holding a registration open house for Kindergarten and morning, afternoon and full-day preschool classes on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 9:15 - 11:30 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. This is for registration for Fall 2009. Samantha Luffy of Centreville was selected to play a performer for University of Mary Washington production of "Elegies: A Song Cycle." Luffy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Luffy of Centreville and is a 2007 graduate of Westfield High School. Performances were held Sept. 25 through Oct. 5 in Klein Theatre.

Alexis Reyes of Centreville recently completed a training program at NOVA’s Manassas Campus. Working with Tire Kingdom, the Manassas Campus automotive program created a special, five-week course to teach basic automotive skills and provide employment opportunities.

Sigma Alpha Lambda announces that Caitlin Marie Meslar of Centreville is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda, National Leadership and Honors Organization at the Montclair State University. Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development and lifelong professional fulfillment.

Meslar is a sophomore and a guard on the MSU women’s basketball team and recently selected to represent the University at the NCAA Leadership Conference in Pittsburgh.

Meslar graduated from Westfield High School and her parents Karen and Walter Meslar reside in Centreville.

The Alpha Iota Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently held its fall induction at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. New inductees are, from Centreville: Rebecca Duncan and Philip Shapiro. From Chantilly: Tiffany Sanford.

Fairfax County Public Schools is searching for teachers, counselors, speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, social workers, and psychologists for the 2009-10 school year. A Secondary School Instructional Job Fair will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, (snow date Jan. 31) and an Elementary School Instructional Job Fair on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, (snow date Feb. 28), at Oakton High School. The job fair interviews are by invitation only. Candidates interested in being considered for an interview should follow the Job Fair Guidelines found at www.fcps/.edu/DHR. Candidates interested in the secondary school instructional fair must complete all steps by the close of business on Jan. 16, 2009, and candidates interested in the elementary school instructional fair must complete all steps by close of business on Feb. 13, 2009.

Clifton Children's Academy is offering a new Accelerated Junior Kindergarten program. It is available to those children who may have just missed the cut-off date for public kindergarten, those children who may not have been quite ready to begin kindergarten this fall, or those children who are excelling on the academic front and are looking for even greater challenges.
