<b>Woodson Serves Up a Victory Against Fairfax</b>
On Sept. 24, the W.T. Woodson High School varsity volleyball team defeated Fairfax High School 3-1 in what Head Coach Len Palaschak described as a sloppy game.
"I was a little concerned with the caliber of our play last night," he said. "This was not the team I see in practices or in most of the matches we play."
The scores of the matches were 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, and 25-22.
Palaschak mentioned Megan Poppe, Molly Sabolsky, Jacquie Palaschak and Tiffany Vu as stand outs during the game.
Poppe lead the team with nine kills and two blocks. Vu finished with eight kills, one ace, one block and 13 digs and Jackie Palashack finished the game with six kills, five aces and 17 digs.
The Cavaliers are now 3-3 on the season.
<b>Rebels Junior Varsity Volleyball Streaking</b>
After staring the volleyball season cold, the Fairfax High School junior varsity team has been red-hot, winning its last four games.
On Sept. 24, the Rebels continued that hot-streak with a 2-0 victory over W.T. Woodson High School.
The Rebels won the match 2-0. The scores were 25-16 and 25-14.
<b>Northern Virginia Senior Olympics Breaks Record</b>
Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
From Sept. 12-23, 618 senior athletes competed in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics (NVSO). It was the most that had even competed in the event.
"This is a record breaking year for us," Jack Hobbs, chairman of the NVSO, said. "Registration was up in nearly all the events and our two new events, Wii bowling and mini-javelin, proved successful."
The participants in the NVSO are all above the age of 50 and at least 10 were above the age of 90.
The NVSO featured 25 events that took place at nine different venues in the Northern Virginia area.
<b>Woodson Athletic Boosters Fund Raising</b>
The W.T. Woodson Athletic Boosters organization is looking to raise $1.5 million to enhance the school’s athletic programs and facilities.
The group’s goal is to provide more opportunities to student athletes, students in physical education programs and for families living in the Woodson community.
