Warhawks Remain Unbeaten in Girls' Lacrosse

Madison victorious in district affairs over Bulldogs, Highlanders.

A girls' high school lacrosse showdown ended in a one-sided contest with the Madison Warhawks soundly defeating the host Stone Bridge Bulldogs, 17-5, last Thursday evening, April 14 in Ashburn. Madison, with the Liberty District win, improved its overall record to 7-0 and its district mark to 5-0. Stone Bridge slipped to 7-4 and 3-2.

The Warhawks got on the board quickly, scoring six consecutive goals before Stone Bridge finally scored. At the half, the Warhawks had built an 11-2 lead. Madison stayed consistent and strong during the second half, with the team patiently working its offense while shutting down Bulldog scoring opportunities. An alert and aggressive Warhawks' defense frustrated Stone Bridge, while Madison goalie Taylor Rivera-Silva walled off shot after shot, dashing the Bulldogs hope of a second-half comeback. Rivera-Silva had nine saves for the evening.

Senior stand-out and co-captain Allison Hahn and sophomore Carly Frederick led the Warhawk's offense with three goals and one assist each. Freshman Sam Babbitt led the Warhawks in assists with four while also scoring one goal. Alex Condon and Julia Kehoe added three goals apiece for Madison, and Katie Kerrigan contributed two scores and an assist. Megan Bisson and Annie Tracz had one goal, while Savannah Bentley -- in addition to her outstanding defensive play -- contributed an assist.

Two nights earlier, Madison soundly defeated district rival McLean, 18-4, on Tuesday, April 12. Strong offensive and defensive play by Madison overwhelmed McLean. The Warhawks' goalies played outstanding as Taylor Rivera-Silva had five saves and Lindsey Beeman four.

Eleven players contributed to Madison's offensive effort. Junior co-captain Megan Bisson led the Warhawk's offense with two goals and two assists. Freshmen duo Alex Condon and Katie Kerrigan contributed three goals apiece. Dana Beden, Allison Hahn, and Brie Hayden scored two goals each. Kathryn Hahne, Carly Frederick, Julia Kehoe, and Annie Tracz each pitched in one goal. In the assists category, Sam Babbitt had two and Hahn one.

The Warhawks are spending spring break week in Yarmouth, Fla. where they are competing in a tournament against top-notch competition from across the nation.
