Letter: Preserving Monopoly

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

Thank you for supporting school access for home schoolers [Editorial, Access for Home Schoolers to School Activities, Connection, Feb. 8-14]. It is eminently fair that those who pay property taxes should have some access to the schools they pay for. Unfortunately, teachers’ unions are becoming apoplectic about this issue. They seek to take away the choice of home schoolers in a misguided effort to preserve the monopoly of their members. They seem to believe that those who dislike the public schools should have to pay for other children as well as their own, while those who like the public schools should be able to pay less for the education of their children. Such self-interested advocacy is wrong on many levels.
