Shepherd’s Center of Fairfax Burke Needs Drivers and Office Workers: SCFB was the winner of 2011-2012 Best of Braddock Award for Club or Organization Making a Difference in the Braddock District due in part to the Center’s Medical Transportation and Companion Shopping programs offering free transportation to seniors in the Fairfax and Burke area who no longer drive. In the past five years SCFB has served 219 clients with over 68,336 miles driven. The trips normally take two hours and average about 20 miles, and destinations are to medical, dental, rehab, and shopping locations in the Fairfax and Burke regions. Office volunteers take phone requests and arrange for volunteer drivers three days in advance for medical transportation Monday through Friday and Shopping transportation on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings.
