Starting in Fall of 2012, The Del Ray Montessori School will offer classes for children from 2 1/2 to 9 years old.
The Del Ray Montessori opened its doors to children ages 2 and a half to 6 in September of 2011. This year, the school received a special use permit from Alexandria City Hall to expand to include elementary education, as well as primary.
Children in the primary classroom (2 1/2 to 6 years) have individual lessons with their teacher and work with their classmates on developing their areas of interest. At the elementary level (6 to 9 years), children are involved in group lessons because at this age they are becoming more social and learn through story telling.
The school plans to grow over the next few years to offer classes for children up to age 12, as well as a before and after school program, and a summer camp.
The school is currently accepting applications for the elementary for Fall 2012.
