Mount Vernon High School students Shai West and Khortney Hamlin won first place awards in individual events at the Virginia Future Educators Association (FEA) Conference, held recently in Virginia Beach. Mount Vernon’s FEA chapter won more awards than any other school in the competition.

West won first place awards in Lesson Planning and Delivery and Impromptu Speaking. Hamlin took the first place award in Job Application. Also receiving awards were Mount Vernon High students Gabriela Quiroz, second runner-up in Essay Contest, and Anna Martinez, fourth place winner in FEA Moment.

Mount Vernon FEA members also captured two club awards, including second place awards for Public Service Announcement and Energy Day. The breakout session, FEA in Action, was presented by Jonathan Guandique and Sammie Oputa; it summarized the club’s activities to inspire others to become more active.
