School Closings

Alexandria City Schools, from http://www.acps.k12.va.us/

Closing Update: All Schools and Offices are closed on Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Code RED in effect for all employees as listed in ACPS emergency closing procedures. Alexandria City has declared a state of emergency due to expected weather conditions. All activities are also cancelled.

Arlington Public Schools, from http://www.arlington.k12.va.us

All APS Schools and Offices will remain closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30. All activities in schools and on school grounds are also cancelled for Tuesday. Employees deemed essential through the APS Facilities & Operations Department should report to work.

Montgomery County Schools, from http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/

Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30, due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings are canceled. Administrative offices are closed Monday, Oct. 29.

Metro

Metrorail and Metrobus service will not resume Tuesday morning.

MetroAccess service will remain suspended all day Tuesday.

An announcement on when service may be restored will be made after Metro is able to assess damage and weather conditions in the morning. Metro personnel will need to perform a comprehensive damage assessment, including inspections of track, bridges, aerial structures, stations and facilities. Metrorail service restoration is also contingent on adequate commercial power to support operations and repair of any storm-related damage.

For Metrobus, service restoration will vary by route and depend on road conditions.

Metro will restore service only when it is safe to do so. Additional information regarding service restoration is expected later this morning.

Customers are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts for information regarding restoration of service as it is known.

Federal Government

Federal offices in the Washington, D.C., area are closed to the public on Tuesday Oct. 30, 2012.

Local Governments

Fairfax County Government

Fairfax County Government Offices — Closed Tuesday, Oct. 30 and employees are granted emergency administrative leave. Emergency service personnel should report as scheduled.

The Fairfax County Emergency Information Hotline has been activated and is available for residents to call for information about the storm. The number is 571-350-1300. For an emergency, call 9-1-1.

City of Alexandria

All City government facilities, schools, courts and public transportation services will remain closed or cancelled Tuesday, Oct. 30. Curbside trash collection is suspended Tuesday. To report non-emergency hurricane issues, call the City’s storm hotline, 703.746.HELP (4357). The city may experience flooding, significant tree damage and power outages. The National Weather Service advises everyone in the area to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay indoors.

Arlington County Government

Arlington County Government offices, libraries, courts, schools, community centers, and nature centers will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30. There will be no service on ART. Metrorail and Metrobus service will not resume service Tuesday morning.

Montgomery County Government

County Executive Ike Leggett has announced that, due to the severe weather conditions the area will experience from Hurricane Sandy, Montgomery County government offices will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Essential personnel must report to work.

County Ride On Bus service remains suspended and will not operate.
