Irene M. Lewis of Fairfax, VA, died peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2013. She was 94 years old. She is the beloved mother of Marilyn K. Sharif (Faysal) of Fairfax, VA, Carl R. Lewis (Charlene) of Trevose, PA, and Wayne L. Lewis (Marge) of Bensalem, PA. Also, she is the beloved sister of Edna Beach, and sister-in-law of Ronald Lewis (Claire). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert H. Lewis, her sister Helen Herb, and brother the Rev. Elwood Heiser. Besides their three children, Irene and Bob had 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The second of four children, Irene grew up in Shamokin, PA where her father worked for the Reading Railroad and her mother was a homemaker. Irene enjoyed family singing around the piano and singing at church, loved to read and excelled in her school work. After completing high school and a three year courtship, Irene married Bob Lewis, moved to Philadelphia, and later to Bensalem, PA where they raised their family. Together, they built extensions to and remodeled their home, enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing bridge and traveling with their many friends. When Bob had a stroke in 1989, Irene became his faithful primary caregiver until he passed approximately ten years later. Later, Irene moved to Virginia where she lived for the past ten years with her daughter and son-in-law.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing at 9:30 am, and services at 11:00 am, on Monday, August 19th at Tomlinson Funeral Home, P.C., 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020, followed by internment at Sunset Memorial Park.
