Centre View School Notes

Union Mill Elementary is currently registering new students for the 2013-14 school year. If your child will reach his or her fifth birthday on or before Sept. 30, 2013, he or she is eligible to attend Kindergarten in the Fairfax County Public School that serves your particular address. Follow the following steps to register your child:

  1. Find your neighborhood school by entering your address at http://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/

  2. Complete a packet of registration forms—you may obtain these either on line at http://www.fcps.edu/parents/index.shtml or in the Union Mill Elementary office. Choosing to bring completed forms to your registration appointment can shorten your registration visit significantly. Call registrar at 703-322-8500 if you need help in navigating the website.

  3. Call our registrar at 703-322-8500 or email sheri.brown@fcps.edu to make an appointment to bring your completed registration forms and supporting documentation to school.

Retired Fairfax County teacher Linda Boone of Clifton, received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Butler University College of Education on May 10 in Indianapolis. She was one of five award winners nominated by fellow education alumni in recognition of their professional achievements.

Boone retired in 2010 after teaching second and third graders for 18 years in the Fairfax County Public Schools, Centreville. She often mentored fellow teachers during her career and was honored as Wal-Mart Fairfax County Teacher of the Year 2001-2002. She previously taught in Warren Township, Indianapolis (1970-1976) and has served on the College of Education’s Board of Visitors (2007-2012). Boone also holds a Master’s of Library Science from Catholic University.

For the fifth consecutive year, St. Andrew the Apostle Elementary School has been selected for the 2013 Best of Clifton Award in the Schools category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA). The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category.

Ryan Christopher Branch has achieved a gold star and been placed on dean’s list at The Citadel. He is majoring in physical education.

Graduating seniors Jamie Frear and Ada Turcios from Mountain View High School and Rachel Orlowsky from Centreville High School were honored as Apple Scholars by the Apple Federal Credit Union. Each student received a $4,000 scholarship.

The following students were named to the dean’s list at Bridgewater College: Sean Douglass, a sophomore majoring in applied physics; Matt Pisarcik, a sophomore majoring in applied physics; and Taylor A. Riley, a sophomore majoring in business administration.

The following local residents have been named to the dean's list at Clemson University for the spring 2013 semester: Haley Esau of Centreville with a major in psychology; Samantha Golnek of Centreville with a major in secondary education; Molly Seltzer of Centreville with a major in political science; Christopher Troscianecki of Centreville with a major in history; Chelsea Wallis of Centreville with a major in computer science.

Chelsea Legendre, of Clifton, made dean's list for the spring semester at James Madison University. She is a senior majoring in communications.

Emma Brady of Centreville was awarded dean’s list honors for the spring semester at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Local residents graduated from Clemson University May 10, 2013: Danielle Martin of Centreville graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in bioengineering; Molly Seltzer of Centreville graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts in political science; Christopher Troscianecki of Centreville graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts in History; Chelsea Wallis of Centreville graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in computer science.

The following local residents have been named to the dean's list at Bucknell University for the spring 2013 semester: Sean Cheetham, son of Kevin and Ann Cheetham of Centreville and a 2009 graduate of Westfield High School and Shelby Romine, daughter of Richard and Tracy Romine of Centreville and a graduate of Westfield High School.

Kathleen Roser of Clifton graduated from the University of Saint Mary with a master of arts in teaching.

Danielle Martin of Centreville was named to Clemson University’s president’s list for the spring 2013 semester. She is a bioengineering major.
