Walter Tejada was re-elected as the National Association of Regional Councils Board of Directors Region III Director, representing the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Tejada has served Region III since 2011

Ted Bilich has been appointed as chair of Leadership Arlington's Board of Regents, beginning his term on July 1. Bilich is a visiting professor of law at Georgetown University School of Law and completed the Leadership Arlington Signature Program in 2009.

Giselle MacDonald is one of 31 students welcomed by the Kennedy Center to participate in the 21st annual Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell. Exploring Ballet is the Kennedy Center's exclusive threeweek ballet training program under the tutelage of the ballerina. The dancers, ages 14-18, were selected from auditions last winter and will participate in the program July 29 through Aug. 17.

At the bi-annual Convention of the Young Democrats of America, Atima Omara-Alwala was elected the first African-American and Virginian president of the Young Democrats of America. Omara-Alwala ran with a team representing California, Georgia, New York, Kansas, Oklahoma and Delaware for the organization’s leadership. In addition to being the first African American and Virginian, Omara-Alwala and the newly elected Executive Vice President, Honorable Erin Carlstrom of California represent the organization’s first female-led team. Omara-Alwala previously served as a Vice President, Mid-Atlantic

Region Director, and Chairwoman of the Women’s Caucus for the organization. She hails from Chester, Va. and graduated from George Mason University, MPA, and the University of Virginia, BA. She lives in Arlington with her husband, Clay.
