"The orchestra will perform a tribute to alto saxophonist Charlie Parker and the landmark recordings he made with Mercury records in 1949 and 1950 accompanied by a string orchestra. Members of the orchestra will be joined by Herb Smith, alto saxophonist and NOVA-Annandale professor of jazz studies, and the Chris Johnston Trio. The program will highlight the original arrangements of the recordings including such standards as “Just Friends,” “Summertime,” “Laura,” and “I’m in the Mood for Love.”
