Seventeen Fairfax County companies are part of the 2014 Virginia Chamber of Commerce Fantastic 50 rankings of the 50 fastest-growing businesses in Virginia. Chantilly-based First Line Technology, which sells products to first responders and the military, received a Virginia Vanguard Award for having the highest growth rate among companies in the manufacturing category.
The Virginia Chamber honored the 50 companies at a banquet held May 1 at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County. The list is printed in the May edition of Virginia Business magazine and is available on the chamber Web site.
"One-third of the fastest-growing companies in Virginia come from Fairfax County," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. "It is a testament to the dynamism of the Fairfax County economy and the opportunities that exist here thanks to decades of pro-business policies and aggressive economic development."

To be eligible for the Fantastic 50, a company must have had revenue of at least $200,000 in 2009. It also must have made a profit in 2012 and have revenue of less than $100 million in its most recent fiscal year. The accounting firm of Dixon Hughes Goodman reviewed the financial records of entries to determine the winners.
The Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO) released its 2014 list of the 50 fastest-growing woman-owned or woman-led companies in North America. One Fairfax County-based company made the list: Chantilly-based Ampcus, Inc. (37). It is the only company from Virginia on the list, and marks the fourth year the company has appeared on the list.
The WPO announced the rankings at its annual conference, held April 24 in New Orleans. All companies that submitted nominations for the list were ranked according to a sales growth formula that combines percentage and absolute growth. To qualify for the ranking, businesses were required to be privately held, woman-owned or led companies in the U.S. or Canada and reached annual revenue of at least $500,000 by year-end 2008.
