Burke and Fairfax Viewpoints: Why was it important to you to come out and vote today?
Teri Ayres of Fairfax is in her fourth year as chief election officer at the Robinson Secondary School voting location. Like many precincts, she said traffic was “steady” through the school’s cafeteria voting area on Nov. 3.
With things going smoothly thanks to all-paper ballots and a single electronic scanner, she and her team of election officers used the opportunity to begin planning for next year’s presidential primary in March.
“We’re going to double the size of our voting area, have more poll books, more scanners and a larger staff,” Ayres said.
Like her fellow officers, Ayres said she likes serving her community and making the voting experience as quick and painless as possible for her neighbors.
“It’s important to give back to the place you live,” Ayres said. “I feel strongly about people exercising their right to vote.”
