Letter: No Longer Impartial?

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

City Code of Ordinances, Title 2, Chapter 4, Article A, Section 2-4-7 states that every person appointed by the City Council to any committee shall take an oath to “… impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on me …”

Impartial is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as “not partial or biased: treating or affecting all equally.”

The letters to the editor written and submitted by Dennis Auld and published last week clearly demonstrate Mr. Auld has violated that oath of office. The content of those letters measured by any standard is unacceptable conduct by a member of a city commission. For a sitting member of such an important commission to publicly criticize and denigrate the well-intended actions of citizens is completely inexcusable. Due to his actions, Mr. Auld should be asked by the City Council to resign his position on the Waterfront Commission. If he refuses to resign he must be removed by the City Council as unfit to serve because of his clearly partial and biased opinions and actions. It is the responsibility of the City Council to remove this individual from the commission to ensure his biased and potentially disruptive participation are not allowed to affect the operation of the city.
